About

Nicholas’ creative process is a form of personal meditation and reflection, and he strives to continue evolving his art as he refines his mediums and techniques.

“I see spray paint as chaos, the design and execution of a blueprint is my attempt to control it,” says Nicholas. “The end result is an extension of myself, where I’m able to choose the subject matter, and essentially write my own laws of nature within the frame of a canvas.”

His work is primarily done using found objects, concrete, hand-stretched paper and canvas with custom-built frames. These form the foundation for aerosol colours that are layered using hand-cut stencils and masks, which allows him to produce slightly varied images in a limited run.

In his recent works, Nicholas captures the pristine environment of British Columbia’s North Coast as it coexists with an increasingly urban and industrial landscape. He hopes to express the beauty that surrounds him, while also hinting at a sense of urgency.

Nicholas studied Graphic Design at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts in Windsor, Ontario, and has been employed in his field consistently for the past five years. He also has a background in silk screening, sign making, and digital printing, which he applies to his stencil-based art regularly. Currently Nicholas is applying to various open calls for submissions in hopes of building up his exposure through exhibition.
