Nicholas is honoured to been selected for a third time with his piece “Knife Owl” for the 2017 Stencil Art Prize! He is among 67 finalists from 25 countries that will hang their works at StirrUp Gallery – Sydney, Australia from September 8 – 17, 2017. Then touring to Muswellbrook Regional Art Centre – Regional NSW, and Noosa Regional Gallery – Tewantin (QLD)

This year for the first time the Stencil Art Prize has asked for prints of the selected paintings. They have given the artist freedom to create their prints any way they wanted as long as the were A3 paper size or smaller. Nicholas opted to create a smaller hand printed stencil of his selected piece “Knife Owl” (below). All prints will be sold at the galleries and on the Stencil Art Prize web site starting August 1st 2017. 

Ice House Gallery Studio Tour 2016

Creative Process, Exhibitions

Nicholas had a great time working with Brenna Boucher and the Ice House Gallery this past weekend for the 2016 Studio Tours. The artist of Prince Rupert invited the public into their studios to gain an inside look on how their works come to life. Brenna and Nicholas had a blast hanging out and discussing their art making process to fellow artist and art lovers. The event went over very well and they both not only learned from each other but gained priceless experience being part of the event!

Heres a little time lapse video of Nicholas and Brenna setting up the studio.

They also made a collaborative painting that they traded forth the weeks prior to the event and auctioned off to the highest bidder. Congratulations to Kirby Schumacher for making sure she was there in the final minutes of the auction to ensure she got a truly original piece or art.

Creative Process

Recently Nicholas been taking his artistic abilities to what some may say are eye sores in public places and transforming them into public art for everyone to enjoy. He has quickly feel in love with the process of working out side his studio and plans to keep up with these “Stencilism Journal Entries”, as he feels they will help grow his fan base on social media and with who ever may stumble across one on there day to day adventures.

He is among 84 finalists from 21 countries that will hang their works at Tortuga Studio – St Peters, Australia from September 5 – 25, 2016. With touring dates and venues still to be announced.

From what Nicholas has seen and heard the Stencil Art Prize did a great job putting it all together, he only wishes he was there to see all the works in person.

Hanging next to some great art, Notnotcamscott (Australia) to my left and James Bourbon (Australia) to my right. If that wasn’t enough, that little red dot under my painting means its sold! I have no idea who or where it is going but super happy its found a new home, plus no return shipping. Happy days!

The Stencil Art Prize team also did a great job making this time lapse video of all the great stencil art being hung at Tortuga Studio. Im honoured to have been part of this event as it grows for a second year, already working on next years submission!

PASTE MODERNISM 4 2015

Exhibitions

On Friday November 27th Australia’s largest Paste-Up event will be returning for its fourth incarnation at Ambush Gallery in Sydney.

Curated by Ben Frost, the exhibition will feature the wheat-pasted paper creations of over 400 artists from around the world.  Artists submissions will be applied to every square inch of the walls of the gallery to create a multi-layered explosion of colour, imagery and social/political explorations.

Nicholas would like to thank everyone that came out to support the event! The sale brought in over $1000 towards his trip to Australia, to be part of the opening night of the Stencil Art Prize. More importantly he was able to see direct reactions to his pieces as he invited the residence of Prince Rupert into my studio via a press release he issued to the Northern View.

Nicholas would be the first one to admit his style of art isn’t everyones aesthetic, and despite a rainy weekend he was able to gain some new fans and see many smiling faces!
